It’s something I hear regularly at networking groups and in various blogs; business owners who are desperate for some digital marketing assistance, but they simply can’t afford it. That’s understandable; in the first few years of setting up a business, outsourcing isn’t always affordable. The problem occurs, however when digital marketing is simply needed…which today, it really is. Every business from the smallest to the largest needs to be on the ball when it comes to digital marketing.
This can create a problem if you don’t have the funds.
Something else that’s also common is a business deciding that they need to save money on their outsourcing venture and stop working with their VA for a while, to then realize that the work their Digital Marketing Assistant had been doing was SO valuable. Then arrives the downward spiral of their social media, blog and so on. Tumbleweeds are seen frequenting their website, Facebook page…completely empty because they dropped the help, and didn’t continue with their digital marketing.
I’ve seen this happening with a couple of former clients; my work – without blowing my own trumpet – was bringing in leads, sales…and I was doing a good job. But then the purse strings were pulled a little, budgets were adjusted, and one of the first things to go was the VA.
Little did they realize that digital marketing is so important. And when you don’t have it, things kind of dry up in this area and it can affect a lot of things.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s time that you take the TIME to invest in LEARNING online marketing. The downward spiral of people who wanted to save money or simply just haven’t done anything to start with, CAN be avoided. Entrepreneurs need to constantly be learning. It’s called “Professional development”.
How can you do this? Make a conscious effort to do so; don’t make it a New Year’s resolution that lasts a week with good intentions and then disappears into the night. Look for local courses in your area that you can do on an evening. Check out influential blogs and websites in the industry and take a look at online courses that can be done at your own pace.
You don’t have to be an expert at the end of it all; digital marketing is a pretty big neighborhood. However, if you come away from your learning with the basics, the main foundations that can form the fundamentals of digital marketing to make your mark, it is better than all of them sitting empty and void of any care and attention. One hour a week can make all the difference in your business as a whole.
